Turkish delight, carpets, beautiful food, gorgeous beaches and a feeling like no other – welcome to Turkey!
You might have noticed the large number of low-priced deals to this part of the world over recent years, and it’s thanks to this that more and more people have fallen in love with Turkey and its many wonderful holiday resorts.
There is an undeniable charm about the country, which is evident the moment you land, and no matter what you seek from a resort, you’ll find one to suit.
Icmeler is an especially great destination for families and couples seeking a quieter holiday, whereas neighbouring Marmaris is more lively. Icmeler is around a two and a half hour transfer from Dalaman, depending on where you’re staying. Turkey time is famous world over, they are a nation famed for being laid-back, so don’t expect a rush.
The transfer time is the only downside, yet the scenery you’ll witness on the way, is really worth the time. Dalaman is generally a four hour flight from the UK, but most flights tend to be early morning or late at night, so it’s important to get as much rest as possible beforehand, to last the day in good spirits. A good idea to achieve this is by pre-booking an airport hotel, with a great choice available country-wide, I choose Airporthotels.com I recently stayed at one of their Birmingham Airport Hotels, and I actually stayed the night on the way back too, as I landed back at Birmingham after midnight. I couldn’t fault the service, and the price was surprisingly low. I’d highly recommend you look into this idea, so search hotels Birmingham Airport and see for yourself.
Once you’re safely in Icmeler, you’ll notice one thing in peak season – sun! The temperatures soar during June, July and August, so remember that sun-cream and hat, to avoid nasty sunstroke and burns. This is especially important if you’re heading out on a boat-trip, which I’d highly recommend. The coastline looks stunning from the water, and there’s nothing more relaxing than floating around for the day – but remember the sun is more intense on open water.
Icmeler beach is beautiful, and far superior to Marmaris. You’ll find a good selection of water-sports on offer, and I’d highly recommend parasailing, for a seriously amazing view.
Excursions are plentiful from resort, with a jeep safari my personal favourite. If you book a few excursions from the same street vendor, you might even be able to haggle your price down and grab a bargain.
Speaking of bargains, you seriously need to head to the market. This is an experience not to be missed, with a bright, colourful and loud atmosphere. You’ll laugh more than anything else, and it’s the perfect opportunity to hone your haggling skills and come away with goods at half the price.
Nightlife in Icmeler is varied, with something for everyone. If you want full on partying, then it’s wise to head to Marmaris, with taxis good value – just remember to secure your price before getting in. One suggestion I would make is to try some traditional Turkish food, as it’s cheap, plentiful and delicious! Alternatively, there are many international menus around, meaning something for every palate.
Turkey is one of my favourite destinations in the world, and it’s not hard to see why. Combine your holiday with a pre-travel night in an airport hotel, such as one of the great value Heathrow Airport Hotels, and you’ll be well-rested, raring to go, and ready to experience everything Icmeler has to offer.
