If you tell your friends you’re headed on a Jamaica vacation, you’re bound to be hit with plenty of jealous “ooooh’s” and “ahhh’s” as they picture the bright blue sunny skies, turquoise sea, luxurious Jamaica villa rentals, and endless stretches of crisp, white beach. It’s no secret that Jamaica is one of the Caribbean’s most popular island destinations, so here are some insider tips on the best beaches to visit:
Best Overall Beach- Negril “Seven Mile” Beach
These seven miles of fine sand and crystal waters are perhaps some of the very best people-watching in all of Jamaica! You’ll find plenty of sidewalk cafes and jerk grills to feed your appetite, and the sprinkling of hotels, bars and clubs along the coast make it a great spot for socializing and checking out the nightlife. It’s also a fantastic spot for water sports and its close proximity to the Negril and Black Rivers means you can hop right from the beach to a river cruise or safari.
Best Beach for Families- Reggae Beach
On the eastern side of the island in Portland is Reggae Beach, bumping a great vibe and plenty to do for the whole family. It’s got food stalls selling delicious Jamaican jerk, spotless white sand and green trees surrounding the beach. It’s a great place to chill out and listen to the live reggae beats as you swim and sun.
Best Beach to Get Away- Cornwall Beach
If making your way through thousands of rainbow tourist umbrellas on the beach isn’t your thing, head to Cornwall Beach on the west of the island for peaceful and spacious beach time. The small entrance fee is completely worth the quieter environment- and there’s a great restaurant and bar on site to try. On Sundays, they host a sunset beach party with a DJ and all the rum you can drink for just around $7 USD.
Best Beach for Views- Silver Sand’s Beach
This beach is simply gorgeous, with turquoise waters meeting the fine white sand and beautiful villas tucked up into the hills overlooking the beach. It’s also so private that you can read, swim, nap and eat at the restaurant with close to no interruption. Enjoy the tranquil atmosphere dotted with greenery and listen to the gently rolling waves coming in and out…this beach is close to perfection.
Best Beach for Surfing- Boston Beach
Boston Beach on the eastern side of the island is in a beautiful little cove, where you’ll see plenty of surfers heading with their boards to take advantage of the perfect waves. As a bonus, it’s right next to the famous Boston Bay jerk stands, serving up some of the best jerk cuisine in Jamaica.
